The Society offers a number of major prizes each year and they are awarded through the annual exhibition.
The Society’s annual exhibition not only features new works by Society members but also selected works by artists from all over the world. This year artists from as far afield as Hong Kong, America and Russia will be exhibiting.
We normally exhibit the work of up to 100 non-member artists. These works are drawn from an open selection which judged by a panel of peers in the form of our members. If an artist submits more than one work each artist’s work is shown as a group, the name of the artist is not announced. The Judges vote on the work. If enough votes are obtained the work is put aside for exhibition, if it achieves nearly enough votes it is put aside to view again.
Our prizes are all drawn from the pool of exhibited works. (The Bulldog Bursary winner is selected through a different system.)
The Changing Faces Prize is awarded to the artist whose portrait best conveys the energy of their subject, the directness of their gaze and an attitude that exudes openness and confidence. The Prize is a £2,000 commission to produce a portrait of a person with an unusual-looking face for the Changing Faces Collection.
£10,000 plus the Society’s GOLD MEDAL awarded for the most distinguished painting in the Society’s annual exhibition.

The de Lazlo Prize of £3,000 for the most outstanding portrait by an artist aged 35 years or under.
