Materials Library

The Institute Of Making was a small materials library started by a collective of senior scientists, engineers and makers and has since evolved into a huge and very popular museum and maker-space on the Engineering campus of UCL

Zoe and the team at IOM have everything in their collection from metal that screams when you bend it, glass that glows in the dark through to blocks of aerogel - the lightest solid on earth and used as insulation of Nasa rockets. The space and collection was a resource that needed gathering, grouping and cataloging as well as innovative ways to open it up to the public.

Nation were brought in to work closely with the team as they built the physical space to create a phone and tablet application that would give guided tours to members of the public as well as provide an engaging and deep overview of everything in the collection.

The application launched on the app store to much applause, allowing children and adults the world over to explore the materials for themselves. Using the app users can delve deeply into the ever-changing world of materials, learning more about the science and technology that goes into the objects that surround us everyday.
